New Zealand Information

Please note the following information very carefully before attending for your examination. Recent changes in the New Zealand Immigration Medical have been introduced and it is now far more stringent.

Ensure that you have down loaded and filled in your details and medical history page of the medical/x-ray form. Attach photographs where stated. You may download the medical form here.

• Female applicants attending the medical examination during menstruation may require repaeat urine testing at a later stage if contamination occurs.

• Please bring any relevant medical information, for example discharge reports for important past medical conditions or hospital letters explaining treatment plans and follow-up arrangements. Normally a photocopy from your General Practitioner’s records will suffice and should not cost more than a photocopying fee. If there is a history of abnormal cervical smears then a copy of a normal follow-up smear result should be provided.

•Those applicants with a history of, or on-going problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or depression may benefit from gaining a report together with any relevant recent blood results from their own Medical Practitioner. (There is likely to be a charge for this.)

Applicants should also bring the following items:-
• 3 passport sized photos, taken within the last 6 months.
• Current passport.
• A list of your current medication.
• Spectacles or contact lenses if worn.

What to expect during your medical

Upon arrival at reception your paperwork will be checked and you will be provided with urine sample bottles.
Families are usually seen together although the doctors may differ in their practice. The medical examination includes measurement of height, weight, urine analysis, vision and blood pressure. In addition a general examination of abdomen, limbs and chest is undertaken. The examination is tailored to the individual’s history and age.

Females require examination of the breasts if 45 years of age or more. Alternatively you may bring a mammogram or ultrasound report completed in the last six months.

Very rarely an internal examination may be required in an adult. A chaperone will be provided if required.

You should expect to be at the surgery for around 20-40 minutes per person.

Applicants over 15 years of age will require a chest x-ray (unless expectant mothers) which is organised at our local private hospital.

They will also require blood tests for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Liver and renal function tests and full blood count (this is taken by one needle only!)

If your medical history dictates or examination findings are abnormal further blood tests may be required. Certain tests may need to be repeated following an overnight fast.

If your BMI (weight in kilograms divided by height squared) is over 35 or your waist measurement is over 88cm (females) or 102cm (males) then you will require fasting blood tests.

X-ray and blood results are usually available within ten days to two weeks. The form is then finalised and sent by special delivery back to you. Any significant problems will be reported to you. You may be asked to supply further medical information via your General Practitioner if required.

Please note the enclosed price list. Payment by debit or credit card only is accepted. Please note the terms and conditions of cancellation and inform us immediately if you are unable to attend your medical.

Terms and Conditions

Please read carefully

At the time of booking you state your intention to attend. If you are subsequently unable to attend please telephone as soon as possible. If less than 4 working days notice is given or we are unable to reassign your appointment then a cancellation fee of £40 per person is chargeable.

Please note that the Embassies are informed of any non-payment.

Correspondence arising from additional investigations will incur an administrative charge of a minimum £15.00

We strongly advise no migration travel arrangements should be booked until you are in receipt of a successful visa as further tests may rely on the availability of a third party medical opinion and occasional complex investigations. The Doctors limit their medical involvement in your case to that of reporting important abnormalities to your General Practitioner for follow-up and treatment.

No guarantee can be provided that results will be available within the specified time frame as unforeseen circumstances can arise. However, in our experience the vast majority of medical reports are turned around without delay.

No copies of medical information are kept after the medical has been signed off.

We accept Visa and Mastercard Credit Cards or Debit Cards at no extra cost.

We regret we cannot accept personal cheques or cash
